Straight from the Pros: Exterior Home Improvement Projects for a Better Investment
Your home’s exterior serves as an important first impression and may make or break your property’s value. So, sometimes it is what’s on the outside that matters most.
With summer in full swing, it's time to take on those much-needed outdoor projects that were neglected during the winter months. You may have several home improvement projects you want to tackle, so how do you know which will provide the best value?
Siding, Trim or Shakes
One of the most eye-catching aspects of a home’s exterior is the siding, so make it count by choosing aesthetically pleasing options that have shown a history of product strength. According to Hanley Wood, a re-siding project on average recoups 75.6% of the cost, making it a viable option.
Also, consider accents to further the look. “Adding accents like trim and shakes fortify specific architectural features of the home for greater curb appeal,” says Kyle Miller, marketing and sales director at All Around.
Patio, Deck or Porch
Enjoy the warmer weather with a patio, deck or porch addition for an outdoor entertaining space to host friends and family throughout the year. Plus, you’ll relax yourself knowing the average return at resale is estimated to be 90.3%.
Sheds
Brent Taylor, owner of O.C. Taylor, touts sheds as an excellent home improvement project. “One of the many important considerations when purchasing a home is how much storage is available. A shed is a perfect solution for not taking up valuable space in the main living spaces while adding value to the whole home.” In addition to the space you’ll gain, you can expect anywhere from a possible 50% to 80% return on investment (dependent on how much you spend). Another great way to use your new shed space is to create a place for some “me time”. Rather than storing tools, use your shed as a place to escape by turning it into a personal sanctuary.
With these suggestions, you’re ready to get started. Your wallet may thank you later. And be sure to check out this infographic that breaks it all down.
