LP House Part 3: Kyle Stumpenhorst and Jordan Smith Reflect on Value of the LP Products

With the LP House construction nearing completion, contractors Kyle Stumpenhorst of @rrbuildings and Jordan Smith of @jordansmithbuilds sat down to reflect on the value of the breadth of LP building materials. While they were both no strangers to LP products, they hadn’t had the opportunity to work with the portfolio of LP Structural Solutions and LP® SmartSide® products until this build.

Phase one consisted of Kyle and Jordan building the foundation for the LP House, which consisted of the following products in the structural solutions portfolio: LP® SolidStart® LVL, LP® SolidStart® LSL, LP® SolidStart® I-Joists, LP WeatherLogic® Air & Water Barrier, LP® TechShield® Radiant Barrier and LP Legacy® Premium Sub-Flooring.

Jordan, who designed the build and selected the products, starts off, "Having worked with LP Solidstart products previously and seen how strong they are firsthand, I was excited to work with LP's other structural products. After working with LP WeatherLogic, LP TechShield and LP Legacy, I can confidently say they are just as durable and solid as LP SolidStart LVL and LSL. If you haven't personally worked with them and are skeptical, just look at LP's leading warranties that back them up."

Kyle, who has previously only worked with LP SmartSide products, agrees with Jordan and says, "I was super impressed by the workability of LP SmartSide products when I first installed them. Same goes for LP's structural portfolio. You can just feel the strength of the products when you work with them and, with some radiant and water 'testing' on the jobsite, we could see that the proof is in the pudding."

Phase two included installing the newest LP SmartSide product line launched in January 2020—LP® SmartSide® ExpertFinish® products, a prefinished siding option available in 16 colors.

Jordan and his wife, Veronica, who are self-proclaimed perfectionists when it comes to exterior design, were naturally attracted to LP SmartSide ExpertFinish products' cedar texture, which gives the natural appearance of wood, combined with the ability for precision cutting to make for a clean, modern aesthetic. Jordan says, "The benefit of LP SmartSide ExpertFinish products is its aesthetic versatility and the engineered wood make-up that allows builders to cut with precision, resulting in crisp, precise accents… which are vital to a modern farmhouse build."

Kyle personally believes that the main benefit of LP SmartSide ExpertFinish products is its contribution to his ability to create an efficient, streamlined jobsite. For instance, he says, "What continues to benefit me the most as a builder working with LP SmartSide products are the many ways they help save time on the jobsite. The lightweight, durable nature allows you to install with minimal crew members, the offering of a prefinished option allows you to save time on painting, and the engineered wood component allows you to gang-cut 5-6 pieces at a time."
